"Endgames:Persistence"

Friday - June 5, 2015

[Piro] - 08:53:00 - [link here]

As most of you are aware, it has been a few months since the conclusion of Megatokyo Chapter 11. I have been using this break between chapters to work on a number of things, including the Megatokyo Visual Novel, the first few chapters of Warmth (yes, after all these years, Warmth is finally actually happening :) various artwork projects and development and writing for chapter 12. Last but not least was work on the traditional between-chapters omake.

When i started pulling together this omake where Miho/m0h drifts into current-day-in-Megatokyo-time Endgames it was going to be in comic format. But as i worked on it the idea struck me that given the Point of View this story was going to have, doing it in a visual novel format would be ideal. Like all good but insane ideas this idea got quickly out of hand and eventually turned into an actual Kinetic Novel (a visual novel with only one path) in full color with music and everything. Using the Renpy-based setup we have been developing for the Megatokyo Visual Novel, it has actually come out better than I expected.

There are going to be four or five installments to this Omake. There are three versions to choose from - the web based version you can play and read right in the comic space (a big huge thank you to Klange for writing a CSS version from scratch :), a stand alone Renpy version for Windows, OSX and/or Linux which you can download via this torrent (requires a bittorrent client to download):

Requires Bittorent client to download!

And an Android version which you can install on your Android smart phone or tablet (requires a bittorrent client to download):

Requires Bittorent client to download!

Stay tuned for the next release! When all is said and done, I hope you enjoy this somewhat different between chapter Omake. A big thank you to Klange, TheShadow, TheShaggyFreak, Paarfi, JavaOfBean, Kalium and RayKremer for their help in this project.

"The Fire Fox has Arrived!"

The Fire Fox has arrived!

Volume 3 of the MegaTokyo: Endgames series is available for sale!

Yeah, the launch of the third book has been a bit wonky this time around. Which is kinda irritating considering how smooth Dire Water launched. But, I suppose if the release date has to be borked, it's far better for it to be early than it is to be late.

In the first two books, I try some different story-telling methods (Tower of Kartage_was meant to read a bit like a slice-of-life journal, while Dire Water_was more my "natural" style), and for Fire Fox, I again dip into a slightly different storytelling method. It really is more like nine short stories that connect to one general narrative arc rather than a single story line.

But honestly, to me, it feels like the best one yet in terms of strength of the tales themselves. Sunay's life really works well in this way, as her adventures are more spread out over the years, as well as allowing readers to see how the world changes over the years.

As always, for those who want the paperback or Kindle versions, follow this link!

But don't worry, Nook users, there's love for you as well when you click here!
