a good cause you say?

"forth, willing minons!"

You may have noticed that Sarah and I have been promoting our latest effort to help out the folks on the Pine Ridge Reservation. In fact, if you follow our Facebook page, you may have noticed quite a bit of promotion. No, we’re not trying to practice the sublime art of web-based mind-bending coercion on you. It’s just the nature of what this promotion is about: helping an organization win the competition for the Pepsi Refresh Project $250K Grant to build sustainable housing on the rez.

A few years ago we ran several successful fundraisers for the Pine Ridge Reservation and were rather amazed by how generous and supportive MT readers were. This time around, we aren’t asking you to donate money to the cause, just a little bit of your attention... every day (until we say stop). What we want to do is exercise the overwhelming might of our Swarming Minions™ to secure the donation someone else’s (Pepsi’s) money to the cause. Of course, we are benevolent overlords and would never ask a minion to support a cause they don’t believe in, but if you feel that this is something you would like to support, we gleefully invite you to join the swarm and vote every day for the cause via this handy portal:

Why every day? I guess it’s one way for them to gauge the commitment voters have to their cause. Causes who’s supporters don’t vote everyday will probably lose to causes who’s supporters do. So that’s why we’ve been bugging you about it.

Thank you in advance for your support and your votes. We’ve already helped them move up in the ranks from #142 to #76, which shows just how much of a difference MT fans can make. This is a cause that both Seraphim and I feel strongly about, so thank you very much for your support and consideration of this cause.

"No CoE Near? Try MOGRA! (updated)"

Friday - July 23, 2010

[Cortana] - 07:18:00 - [link here]

The Cave of Evil is a long-time center of happenings in Megatokyo. I'm sure many of us at one time or another have thought we'd like to visit, but Japan is far away, and Megatokyo even further. What if there were a way for you to experience a club LIKE the CoE, but from the safety and comfort of wherever you are?! Alright then, leave it to me! Let me tell you about a club called MOGRA. Nestled safely deep inside Tokyo's Akihabara district, the legendary home of all things otaku and anime, MOGRA is open six days a week, with a schedule of different types of music and DJs slated to bring you the music and images your mind never thought you would see inside a nightclub.

Now you might think, "Yeah, ok. Whatever. Not like I can be there. It's way off in Tokyo." But you'd be wrong. MOGRA streams most of its more popular nights online, via Ustream. You can find the page here. The shows normally start at 2300 Japan time, and run until 5am. In US terms, that would be 10am EDT, to 4pm. Some of the mid-week shows start and end earlier, but you can get all that from their schedule page here. Sorry, it's in Japanese, but then, what did you expect. The club's manager is often watching the chat in the stream, and will participate in it occasionally, as well. Usually there's someone in the chat that will translate what he says into English, to make it easier for everyone. You can also follow their twitter, @MOGRA_staff, for updates on upcoming DJs and shows.

Tonight's (7/23) show has an unfortunate name I won't list, as this is a family-safe comic. However, the DJs scheduled to appear are VERY good, and if you manage to catch the show, you won't be disappointed. Tomorrow (7/24) is MOGRA festival, where it's going to be just as good, if not better. This is definitely a show to catch, if you can. The DJ list is insane, and I guarantee you'll have fun listening.

I'll be there today AND tomorrow, so you know that it'll be good. You'll see me in the chat as 'c0rtana', since that's my twitter. Piro often listens too, so don't be surprised to see him there either.

UPDATE!! : THIS WEEK'S SCHEDULE BELOW.

Friday: elemog - featuring special guest RAM RIDER. other djs kz vs. yako backtoback set. YUKI (nirgilis), SOLTY, tom2, sakage, melo and kei。

Saturday: Touhou-niconicollection ALL NIGHT. Lots of DJs, featuring Gyaran, who spins a lot of great tracks.

The DJ pictured, DJ ねむきゅん(nemukyun)'s page is here.
